It is best taken one month before conception and throughout the pregnancy as many woman planning pregnancy may not obtain adequate levels of folic acid in their diet. It may take approx 4 cups of cooked green beans each day to obtain the equivalent 300ug of folic acid through diet alone.
How it works
A convenient dose of folic acid developed for women planning pregnancy who want extra support to ensure they're getting optimal levels of folic acid - espcially prior to conception and during the first trimester, which is a critical time for the development of baby's nervous system.
Folic Acid supplements should be taken in conjunction with a healthy diet. Folic Acid is a B vitamin and is found naturally in leafy vegetable, citrus fruits, whole wheat bread, yeasts, liver and legumes.
Dosage
Adults - One tablet daily with main meal, or as professionally prescribed. *(Although the recommended daily intake (RDI) for pregnant woman is 800-1200mcg daily, the New Zealand Health Department only allows 300mcg to be included in dietary supplements. This level will increase once the new trans-tasman regulatory body comes into force).
Cautions
If you have had a baby with a neural tube defect you should seek specific medical advice before using this product.
