Vitamin B6 can reduce the nausea and vomiting associated with pregnancy. In one study, doses of 25 mg every 8 hours improved nausea in pregnant women complaining of nausea and significantly reduced vomiting in all patients. Blackmores Morning Sickness Formula includes vitamin B6 at the dose used in clinical trials where severe nausea and vomiting were significantly reduced. In a randomised, double-blind placebo controlled trial pregnant women were given 25 mg of vitamin B6 every 8 hours for a period of 3 days. Again, the results showed a significant reduction in severe nausea and vomiting, and no side-effects were experienced.

Research supports the use of ginger to reduce the occurrence and symptoms of motion sickness. These symptoms include nausea, vomiting, vertigo and cold sweats. The actual mechanism of action is unclear, however it has been suggested that ginger aids in these conditions by having a local action on the digestive system. Women suffering from hyperemesis gravidum (the most severe form of morning sickness) were given the powdered ginger root (in tablet form) in a randomised double-blind cross-over trial in 1990. The dose used was 250 mg four times per day. The researchers concluded that there was a significant reduction in both the severity of nausea and number of attacks of vomiting experienced. All evidence confirms the safety of ginger in pregnancy provided normal doses are consumed.
